Genealogy

The Irish Family History Foundation has an all Ireland network of country genealogy centres and is the largest provider of family history research services on the island of Ireland. Those wishing to trace their Irish ancestry can access to over 19 million Irish records from the 1600′s to the 1900′s including births, baptisms, marriages and deaths; Griffith’s Valuation; Tithe Applotment Books; the 1901 & 1911 census records; gravestone inscriptions and other sources.
Their experienced researchers from a number of their county genealogy centres will be offering a free advisory service to visitors to the TradFest to assist them in locating records relating to their particular family in a specific county or across any number of counties. The IFHF and its centres are non profit organisations providing an online and local service run by trained genealogists and researchers, as well as computerizing further records.
The Tudors Exhibition
Date: Tuesday 22nd until Sunday 27th of January

A spectacular exhibition of original 16th Century costumes from the historical series The Tudors. Designed by Emmy award-winning designer Joan Bergin, the opulent costumes from the drama have travelled the world having previously appeared on display in Macy’s New York on Saint Patrick’s Day. The beautiful gowns feature elaborate beading, embroidery, crotchet and hand painting.
Book of Common Prayer Exhibition
Date: Tuesday 22nd until Sunday 27th of January

An exhibition marking the 350th anniversary of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer is currently on display in the Crypt. Compiled by Canon Roy Byrne, the exhibition celebrates the great heritage of liturgical reform and development and draws together a wide variety of editions of the Book of Common prayer to illustrate its 350th anniversary journey. Entitled “the Word that spake it”, the exhibition will be on display in the cathedral’s Treasury until Saint Patrick’s Day.
