Othered voices is a two day programme of events acknowledging relevant emerging narratives in music performance. Crossover poetry and rap merges with new composition and breakthrough performance culture to give us a picture of a discontented sub-section of National identity. What speaks, what portrays, and what manifests the voice of the rural-urban class. Who speaks and who sings the protest song for the out of work or redundant bank worker? Where are the emerging anthems of challenge? Who sings the melody of discontent? Who writes the ballad of austerity and meager times. Othered voices is an authentic and original event to give a platform to prominent contributors who have remained outsiders and excluded from mainstream cultural practice.
